QuickSCRIP has the ability to import price updates from your wholesaler and insert them into the pricing fields in the Drug File Maintainance screen. This feature is useful for making sure your pricing is based on current market values for your drugs, and getting more a more accurate idea of your cost and profit.

In general, QuickSCRIP imports Aquisition Price. We can also setup the price update to import vendor names and order numbers.

Updating from a downloaded file

The most common method of importing a price update from a file, downloaded from the internet. The file can be downloaded stright onto the server, or it can be saved to another computer on the network (such as your wholesaler ordering computer).

  1. Download the price update from your wholesaler website
    • You will need to cunsult your wholesaler on how to do this, as the process is different from vendor to vendor
    • NOTE: Make sure you save the update in the location designated for it
  2. In Quickscrip, start in the Pharmacy Main Menu
  3. Choose Option 3 Unilites
  4. Choose 18 Optional Price Update
  5. You will be asked if you want to print price Changes
    • Y will print all the drugs and the values that changed
    • A will print ALL drugs in the price update, reguardless of weather it was found in your system
    • N will not print the changes
    • P will only print drugs that have changed over a set percent value. This is ideal for catching drugs that changed dramatically.
  6. Some systems will prompt you to enter your vendor name. Type it if prompted.
  7. Quickscrip will then import the update. You will be given a 1-page printout that will tell you the total number of drugs updated.

Troubleshooting

Once of the most common errors while running a wholesaler price update is "X file not found" after running option 18 in the utilites menu. There are three possible causes for this message:

  • The price update was not saved in the correct location
    • QuickSCRIP is told to look in a specific location for the price update. If you downloaded the file, but did not save it in the correct folder, you can get this error.
  • The price update was not named correctly
    • The name of the price update varies from wholesaler to wholesaler, but when you run a price update in Quickscrip, we are looking for a specific file name (typically cost.txt or costfile.txt)
  • The Mapped drive is not connected
    • If you are saving your price update on a wholesaler computer, or a computer that isn't the QuickSCRIP server, we may use a mapped network drive to get the price update from over your network. Please check "My Computer" and verify that the mapped nextwork drive icon does not have a red X over it. If so, double-click it to re-establish connection.

Updating from 832 FTP

Both Amerisource and Morris Dickson offer FTP/832 price updates. These are similar in function to the normal price updates, except that you don't have to download the file from a website. Contact your wholesaler if you'd like to sign up for this feature.

  1. In Quickscrip, start in the Pharmacy Main Menu
  2. Choose Option 3 Unilites
  3. Choose 18 Optional Price Update
  5. Some systems will prompt you to enter your vendor name. Type it if prompted.
  6. Quickscrip will then import the update. You will be given a 1-page printout that will tell you the total number of drugs updated.

Rx Price Update Customization Screen

To customize how QuickSCRIP handles price updates, go to the Rx Price Update Customization Screen.

  1. Start in the Pharmacy Main Menu
  2. Choose 3, for Utilites
  3. Choose 3 again, for Business Control File
  4. Finally, choose 8 for Rx Price Update Customization Screen

Quickscrip can store the settings for up to two seperate price updates.

  • Lines 1 & 2 determine the location QuickSCRIP looks at to find the price update.
  • Lines 3, 4, 5 & 6 set the relevant masks and program switches for the price updates. These are setup by a Cost Effective Help Desk Representative.
  • Line 7 shows the last date you successfully ran a Wholesaler Price Update
  • Line 10 shows the last date you successfully ran a Medi-span AWP price update.
  • Lines 11 - 16 allow you to set if you want your pricing values lowered when you run your price updates.
  • Line 17 Lets you set a number of months for QuickSCRIP to check the price update while filling a prescription. If the last updated date is older than this, then QuickSCRIP will warn you.
