QuickSCRIP offers the ability to search an integrated Surescripts database for SPI (Surescripts Provider ID) numbers. The SPI number can then be Inserted into the existing doctor or a new doctor can be Added to your Doctor File. This database is downloaded automatically at night, and must be setup and scheduled by a Cost Effective Help Desk Representative.

Inserting an SPI into an Existing Doctor

  1. Start in the Rx Processing Menu and select 10 for the MD Doctor File Maint.
  2. Search for the Doctor you would like to update.
  3. Choose U for SURE
  4. Now you can search the database for the doctor. A pick list will appear displaying possible matches. The left side of the screen contains fields for entering search criteria. The right side of the screen contains the doctor as they appear in your system for side-by-side comparison. Please note that the doctor may have registered in Surescrips under name that is different from how they are entered in your database (e.g. they omitted a middle name, have an initial, or go by a different first name)
  5. Select the best match and review the displayed information. Be sure you have selected the correct doctor, then choose I to Insert the information into your doctor file. You will return to the Doctor File and the SPI will be updated. Additionally, QuickSCRIP will import the Surescripts level and set the Communication Type to S automatically.

Note: You can also search for an SPI number in the RXFILL Screen while adding a doctor to a scrip. If the SPI information on a Surescripts claim does not match the SPI information in your doctor file, QuickSCRIP will alert you to the discrepancy and give you a chance to confirm the information.

Adding a Completely New Doctor

You can also add doctors from the NPI database into your doctor file. Search for the Doctor you want in the SPI look-up screen and Choose W to add the new doctor to your file.

Common Problems

If the SPI Look-up does not work, it could be because the database did not download and extract properly overnight. This can cause QuickSCRIP to not recognize all Surescripts doctors, or can cause program errors when trying to lookup a doctor. Please contact Cost Effective Computers if you experience these problems.
