Transmitted in field A2-102 this field alerts the insurance provider to the NCPDP transmission format.

As of the adoption of the new D.0 transmission standard, this field is populated by a D0. For claims send on the older 5.1 format, this field will be populated by a 51; however, this is very rarely used.
