Rx Origin Code

Please make sure you have the current Rx Origin Code programs by
downloading the QuickScrip Price Updates. The updates can be
downloaded by going to the Rx Processing Menu. Press Enter to go to
the Pharmacy Main Menu. Press 3 and Enter to go to the Utilities
Menu. Type 16 and press Enter to download the price update file that
will contain the latest programs.

*Note* If your system is setup to not download Quickscrip Prices, your
system will only download the new programs and will NOT update your
prices.

Many pharmacies have been receiving faxes and calls from MedCo and
MedImpact informing them that they will be required to transmit the Rx
Origin starting January, 2010. The Rx Origin field is located in the
FILL screen at line 43.

We do our best to default to the correct value for this field. However
there are some situations where we do not know the correct origin. If
you go straight from the menu into the FILL screen, we will default to
the origin of the scrip being hand written. If you go into the FILL
screen by going to the SureScripts Queue and hitting F to Fill the
scrip, we will default to the origin being Electronic. The two
situations we do not know about are call-in scrips and faxed scrips.

By default, to change the Rx Origin field you can cash the scrip out
and at the point of putting in your initials, go up to line 43 and make
the change. Then you are able to transmit the scrip with the new
origin. We have added two different ways for this to be more
convenient.

The first is on a 3pi vendor by vendor setup. Since only certain
vendors are going to want this you can set QuickSCRIP to only ask you
for the Rx Origin on those vendors. To set this up, pull up the 3PI in
Insurance Vendor File Maintenance, #14 from Rx Processing Menu. In
line 20, add one of the following commands to the end of whatever is
already in that line.

/OR Get Rx Origin on New Scrips.
/OR0 Get Rx Origin on New Scrips. Default Rx Origin = 0 on refills.
/OR1 Get Rx Origin on New Scrips. Default Rx Origin = 1 on refills.
/OR2 Get Rx Origin on New Scrips. Default Rx Origin = 2 on refills.
/OR3 Get Rx Origin on New Scrips. Default Rx Origin = 3 on refills.
/OR4 Get Rx Origin on New Scrips. Default Rx Origin = 4 on refills.

The second is to ask on EVERY prescription. This will turn the line 43
into a normal field in the filling process and cause you to hit enter
to get through the field. To turn this on, go to your Pharmacy Main
Menu, choose 3. Utilities, then choose 3. Business/Control File
Maint., then 5. Additional Rx Custom Screen #2. You will need to set
line 35. Get Rx Origin? to something other than N. The options are:

If "Y", QuickSCRIP will ask you for the Rx Origin every time that you
fill a new scrip.

IF "R", then will also ask for the Rx Origin on renumbered scrips.

"Y" and "R" will default to "W"ritten.
"Z" is the same as "Y" with no default.
"S" is the same as "R" with no default.

We will transmit the Rx Origin code to any insurance that has any of
the /OR commands on Insurnace Vendor File maintenance on line 20. If
you wish to transmit the Rx Origin code to an insurnace that does not
have the /OR commands on line 20, pull up the 3PI in Insurance Vendor
File Maintenance. Type O3 (That is the letter O and the number 3) to
go to screen 3. In line 16, add /OR to the end of whatever is already
in that line.

The only insurances that we know are currently accepting the Rx Origin
as of December 2009 is AARP, MedCo, and North Carolina Medicaid.

If you need to go back and look at the origin or change it for some
reason, first pull up the scrip in the Rx Edit screen. There is not a
field on the screen but if you type OR and hit Enter it will ask you
the question to set the Origin. When the question appears, the option
that is set as the default (between the '[ ]') is what the
prescription was originally set as.
